Modem
In order to use Qwest Broadband service, you need a broadband modem. The main purpose of the modem is to coordinate the communication between your computer and Qwest’s network. Currently, Qwest offers two modem options.
Qwest Standard Modem
This is the most basic modem available. It connects one computer to the Internet through a cable from your computer to the modem, and another from the modem into a standard phone jack. It cannot provide wireless connection or connection for multiple computers.
Qwest Advanced Networking Modem
This modem also serves as a network hub. It has ports to connect multiple computers so that they can all use the high speed internet connection as well as communicating with each other so they can share files and printers. This modem also provides a wireless network connection that can be used by any computer – desktop or laptop, as long as it has wireless network capability. The signal is Wi-Fi certified and compatible with all 802.11b and 802.11g network devices. It supports both WEP and WPA security so you can secure your wireless connection from intruders.
